Brian Schwieger - Managing Partner

After 30 years in Financial and Commodity markets, Brian left the London Stock Exchange Group in spring 2021 to pursue a portfolio career as a director, advisor and consultant. In addition to founding Moraine Advisors, he holds a number of Board roles (see below).

While working at the London Stock Exchange Group, Brian was responsible for all aspects of trading equity products across both the London and Milan stock markets. His remit included client and stakeholder relations, technical operations, product development and sales and marketing. During his eight-year tenure, his teams made significant gains in market share and revenues through new strategies focused on key client segments, diversification of market participants and investors. This included expanding client and promotional activities across the USA, Europe, Russia, Israel, China and Hong Kong.

Reporting directly to the CEOs of both the London Stock Exchange plc and Borsa Italiana, Brian played a key role in defining and executing the Group's preparations for MiFID II and Brexit, including stakeholder strategies and communications. He was a key architect of the London-Shanghai Stock Connect, a trading link between London and Shanghai Stock Exchanges, and managed the development of TRADEcho, the Group's RegTech trade reporting platform.

Products and services for retail investors were a particular focus for Brian while at the London Stock Exchange Group. His teams actively partnered with several retail brokers across the UK, Italy, USA, China and Hong Kong, working with them to help improve educational materials and market access. In doing so, he gained valuable experience in retail trading apps and the design and distribution of digital marketing.

Before joining the London Stock Exchange Group in 2013, Brian worked at both Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, where he was a pioneer in the development of electronic trading in Europe. Starting as Morgan Stanley's 'test pilot' for trading algorithms, Brian progressed through to managing the design and roll-out of BAML's global trading platform. This required managing and understanding technologists, quantitative engineers, data analysts, traders and sales & marketing professionals.

His early career was spent in refinery operations and trading liquefied petroleum gas cargoes for BP and Continental Grain.

Brian graduated with a BSc (Econ) from the London School of Economics and an MSc Finance from London Business School. He also holds a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors and has completed its course on the Role of the Chair.
